The ZIMMERMAN’S 2003
Our Story
Becky and I met in Fort Worth, Texas in January 1982. My roommate at the time invited her over for dinner after a long, twelve hour, drive from her parent’s home in Birmingham, Al. She planned to pursue a Masters Degree in Communications from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. I’d been at Seminary for a couple years to work on a Masters of Divinity Degree..
Providentially, we sat next to each other in an Old Testament survey class. Our studies, mutual love for Jesus, and a deep friendship began to grow. By Thanksgiving that year we were engaged and on May 28, 1983 became husband and wife. Following my Doctor of Ministry graduation in 1988, the role of Senior Pastor in a Baptist church brought us to Lawrenceville, Georgia. After several miscarriages, God blessed us with three sons, Dawson, Carter, and Walker.
We remained in that role for fifteen years. In 2003, God invited us to take the largest step of faith in our Christian lives and join Him in a global movement as full-time, support-dependent, career missionaries. Our mission organization, called Novo, is a band of creative missionaries sent to multiply movements of the gospel and mobilize the church for that mission around the world.
After three years on Novo’s reFocusing Team, I assumed a leadership role as our team’s Director. Since 2006, my role has been to serve a high capacity team of church innovators and mission specialists and together train, coach, and mentor leaders who desire to advance the Kingdom of God in their life, church, and community. Our aim is to glorify Christ in whole neighborhoods and networks of new disciples of Jesus.
Becky’s ministry passion includes, intercessory prayer, creative writing, spiritual direction, and mentoring women. Our three adult sons have expanded our family to include Ashley, Alison, and Sally. And the newest addition, Emilia Louise Zimmerman, arriving June 2020.
